Diospyros kaki 'Fuyu'

Fuyu Japanese Persimmon, also known as Diospyros kaki 'Fuyu', is a popular variety of persimmon tree. Here's some information about Fuyu Japanese Persimmon:

1. Fruit: Fuyu Japanese Persimmon produces medium to large-sized fruit that is round and slightly flattened in shape. The fruit has a vibrant orange color when ripe and a sweet, honey-like flavor. Unlike some other persimmon varieties, Fuyu can be eaten while still firm, without the need for softening.

2. Pollination: Fuyu Japanese Persimmon is a non-astringent variety, meaning it does not have the characteristic mouth-drying sensation that astringent persimmons can have. However, it is important to note that Fuyu is self-infertile, so it requires cross-pollination with another compatible persimmon tree for fruit production. It is recommended to plant another non-astringent variety, such as Jiro or Izu, nearby for successful pollination.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low Maintenance. Needs regular watering until established. Plant in rich, well-drained soil. It can be susceptible to scale and borers if in dry locations.  Fallen fruit can be messy if not harvested.
