Bleeding Heart is a compact herbaceous perennial with deeply cut grey green leaves resembling ferns. Nodding pink or purple-red heart shaped flowers bloom on long leaning stems in late spring, and can continue into summer if weather is cool or stop in hot summers and rebloom as the weather cools in late summer into fall. Flowers best in part shade with rich, consistently moist, well-drained acidic soils. Tolerate full shade.
