Scentlandia Sweetspire is a dwarf deciduous shrub with a rounded habit and intensely fragrant flowers. Its shiny, rich blue green foliage turn bright red in fall. The long drooping raceme coated with fragrant white flowers bloom in early summer. Best fall color in full sun and rich moist well-drained soils. Scentlandia has improved cold and shade tolerance.
Itea virginica is a host plant for the American Holly Azure butterfly if in the coastal plains, otherwise it acts as a food source for various bees and butterflies. Birds may eat the seeds.
