Burgundy Wine Heavenly Bamboo is a compact evergreen shrub that freely branches and has interesting bamboo-like foliage that is longer and narrower than the standard. This finely-textured foliage emerges burgundy, and in summer while the lower half matures to dark green the top shifts to bright wine red, which then turns to shades of burgundy, red, and orange in fall and winter. White flowers bloom in late spring and are followed by creamy white berries that persist into winter. The leaves and berries are highly toxic to animals. Best planted in part sun with rich, moist well-drained soils.
