Luxuriant Bleeding Heart is a compact herbaceous perennial with deeply cut blue green leaves resembling ferns. Nodding cherry red buds that open to dark reddish-pink heart shaped flowers with protruding inner petals bloom on long leaning stems in late spring and continues into summer if the summer is cool or stops and rebloom from late summer into fall. Flowers best in part shade and consistently moist rich well-drained acidic soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low maintenance. Intolerant of wet soils in winter and dry soils in summer. Some susceptibility to aphids. Powdery mildew, downy mildew, wilt, and rust may occur. Watch for snails and slugs on new growth.
