Madame Galen Trumpet Creeper

Campsis x tagliabuana 'Madame Galen'

Madame Galen Trumpet Creeper is a fast-growing climbing vine with pinnate glossy dark green leaves that are a duller green underneath and turn yellow in fall.  It sports deep salmon red trumpet-shaped flowers with deep golden throats that bloom on new growth, attracting  bees and  butterflies in summer.  Blooms best in  full sun and well-drained soil.  An excellent choice for trellises or pergolas.  Very aggressive spreader and drought tolerant.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  High maintenance.  Prune in early spring before flowering.  Needs sturdy support, as the plant gets heavy.  The biggest problem is restraining the suckers to prevent self-seeding and smothering nearby plants.  Can cause mild skin irritation if in contact with the sap.

LANDSCAPE USES:  Specimen or Mass Plantings,  Screening,  Water Gardens or Ponds,  Wildlife Garden, Trellises and Walls, and Containers.
