The 'Jane' variety typically grows to a height of 10 to 15 feet and has a rounded, spreading form. It produces large, goblet-shaped flowers that can measure up to 6 inches in diameter. The flowers are a beautiful shade of pink-purple and have a fragrant scent. They bloom in early spring, before the leaves emerge, creating a striking display.
Saucer Magnolias, including the 'Jane' variety, prefer full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. They can tolerate a range of soil types but prefer slightly acidic soil. Regular watering is important, especially during dry periods, to help establish and maintain the tree's health.
In terms of landscape use, the Saucer Magnolia 'Jane' is often planted as a specimen tree or as part of a mixed border. Its vibrant flowers make it a focal point in the garden, and its relatively compact size makes it suitable for smaller spaces.
