Persian Ironwood

Parrotia persica

Persian Ironwood, scientifically known as Parrotia persica, is a beautiful deciduous tree native to Iran. Here's everything you need to know about it:

1. Appearance: Persian Ironwood is a medium-sized tree that can reach a height of 20-40 feet (6-12 meters) with a spread of 15-30 feet (4.5-9 meters). It has a rounded crown and smooth gray bark that exfoliates to reveal patches of orange, brown, and green.

2. Foliage: The leaves of Persian Ironwood are alternate, simple, and ovate in shape. They emerge in spring with a reddish-purple color, turn green during summer, and transform into vibrant shades of orange, red, and purple in the fall.

3. Flowers: In late winter or early spring, Persian Ironwood produces small, red flowers that are clustered together. These flowers are not particularly showy but add a touch of color to the tree before the leaves emerge.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance. Water Regularly.  No serious pests or diseases.
