Fizzy Mizzy Sweetspire is a compact deciduous shrub with a tidy rounded habit and dark green oval leaves that turn shades of red, orange, and purple in fall. Abundant upright flower spikes of lightly fragrant white flowers blooms in summer and are followed by berries. Prefers rich, moist to wet well-drained soils. Fizzy Mizzy has improved shade tolerance.
Itea virginica is a host plant for the American Holly Azure butterfly if in the coastal plains, otherwise it acts as a food source for various bees and butterflies. Birds may eat the seeds.
